Overnight emergency service to remain open

12:08 pm on 1 December 2012

Kenepuru hospital in Porirua is to retain its overnight medical service after months of protest over plans to replace it with roving paramedics.

The Capital & Coast District Health Board had been considering shutting the service to cut costs.

Chief executive Mary Bonner said the current system will continue unchanged.

Mana MP Kris Faafoi said Porirua, Tawa and the Kapiti Coast have high-needs communities, with young families who can get sick very quickly and rely on Kenepuru hospital's overnight service.
