Christchurch's carols in Latimer Square

3:00 pm on 8 December 2012

Christchurch's annual Christmas carol service, Carols in the Square, will be held in Latimer Square on Saturday night.

Cathedral Square, the traditional site for Christmas activities, remains closed.

The lighting of a seven-storey Christmas tree - which last year took place in Hagley Park - will be a feature of the Latimer Square event, which kicks off at 4.30pm.

An organiser, Tim Capill, says there will be bouncy castles, face-painters,and live music before the carol service begins at 6pm.

Mr Capill says the festivities will continue after the carols have finished, with the lighting of the tree at about 9pm.
