A search is underway for an 84-year-old hunter missing in the Lake Rotoroa area of the Nelson Lakes National Park.
Search coordinator Sergeant John Maxwell says the Feilding man was with five other hunters, who entered the area on Monday morning. They had planned to hunt until 5pm and then meet at a designated point, but the man failed to arrive.
Mr Maxwell said a tracking dog and helicopter had been deployed, and three land search and rescue teams were heading into the area.
He said the missing man is an experienced hunter who is very fit and well prepared to survive a night in the bush, but is not familiar with the area.
