South Auckland police are investigating the suspicious death of a 24-year-old woman found with unexplained injuries in a sleepout.

The woman was discovered by relatives at her family home in Cotton Place, Papakura, about 7.30am on Wednesday.

She was last seen by her family about 8.30pm on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Mark Gutry says her family was in the house when the death occurred. "The family are distraught; they are talking to us and making statements at the moment."

Mr Gutry says no weapon has been found, and police have not identified any persons of interest.

He says a pathologist is at the house while a scene examination takes place.

Mr Gutry says the body is being removed on Wednesday afternoon and a post-mortem will be completed on Thursday.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw people in the area overnight.
