The Mangawhai Ratepayers Association is accusing a newspaper of pettiness for turning down an ad promoting the Kaipara rates revolt.
Chairman Bruce Rogan said the Dargaville and Districts News refused to accept a $500 advertisement with a festive theme, advising people not to buy the council's "turkey of a plan".
Mr Rogan said the paper, which runs a lot of council notices, was happy to run editorial content about the rates revolt.
He said it accepted the ad at first, but later said it contravened its advertising policy.
The Mangawhai Ratepayers Association has led a rates revolt that forced Kaipara District Council members out after it incurred debt totalling $80 milllion and tried to levy massive rate rises.
