Police admit Ashburton homicide is puzzling

Police officers investigating the death of an Ashburton woman say it is a homicide, but admit the case is puzzling.

Sina Nerisa Solomona, 22, was pronounced dead by paramedics who were called to her Cass Street home early on Saturday.

She had traumatic head injuries.

Detective Senior Sergeant John Rae says there are no immediate suspects.

He says she worked at the freezing works and liked a drink or two and although police have spoken to a large number of her extended family, friends and work associates, there is no indication as to why this would have happened.

Mr Rae says the police won't know how Ms Solomona died until the post mortem is held on Monday.
