Police in South Auckland say the use of social media to find wanted criminals in their area is proving to be invaluable.
They are now posting mugshots, alleged criminals' names and charges on the Counties Manukau police Facebook page.
Inspector Ann Wilkie says the public have responded incredibly well to the page.
She says one person was located on Thursday morning after 40 people's photos were posted.
She says at this stage social media is a last resort, but she could see that changing, because once every other avenue has been tried in tracking a person down, social media is a good alternative.
