One person is dead after a car collided with a truck at notorious blackspot at Mangatawhiri in Franklin District.
Police say emergency services were alerted at about 5.20pm on Thursday to the crash on State Highway 2, about 13kms northeast of Pokeno.
One person from the car is dead and the truck driver has been taken to hospital.
The Police Serious Crash Unit is investigating and diversions are in place at the intersections of Kopuku Road and State Highway 2 and Coalfields and State Highway 2.
At least 40 people have died on State Highway Two near Mangatawhiri in the last 12 years.
