Police said the man was on the railway tracks below the Gillespies Line overbridge when he was hit by a northbound train just after 3am on Saturday.
They said it is unclear whether the man was walking on the tracks or had fallen from the overbridge.
The man was in his 40s and police said on Saturday morning they were still trying to identify him.
