City missions are preparing for their busiest day of the year - annual Christmas lunches and gift-giving.
The City Mission in Christchurch has 150 volunteers preparing lunch for an anticipated 650 people.
Auckland City Mission has about 500 volunteers preparing lunch for up to 2500 people. Planning has taken at least three months.
A spokesperson said they are busy cooking 240kg of chicken, 240kg of ham and another 240kg of potatoes.
And a food hamper will be delivered to at least 1700 households in Wellington on Monday.
