An East Cape girl is in the intensive care unit at Gisborne hospital after a crash on State Highway 35 near Te Kaha.
The car she was driving collided head-on with a four wheel drive vehicle late on Tuesday afternoon.
She was flown by rescue helicopter to hospital with serious leg injuries.
Four people in the other vehicle were taken by ambulance to Whakatane hospital.
