A rescue helicopter from Taupo plucked an injured woman to safety off the top of Mount Tauhara just as it got dark on Wednesday.
The woman had severely twisted her knee and was unable to descend the mountain on her own.
The rescue service said a crew using a searchlight was able to pick up the woman and her daughter, and take her to Taupo hospital.
