More wet weather forecast for West Coast

8:57 pm on 6 January 2013

Wet weather is set for the west coast of the South Island this week.

MetService forecaster Philippa Murdoch says rain will hit the South Island on Tuesday, with strong winds expected over central New Zealand.

She says that rain will be heavier on Wednesday, especially on the West Coast, in Buller, Fiordland and Westland, and will also spill over to Otago and the Canterbury lakes.

Severe gales are expected to move through Marlborough, Wellington and Wairarapa during Wednesday and into Thursday, but should weaken during the day.

Severe weather warnings in place in Gisborne and Marlborough-Nelson have been lifted on Sunday night.
