The Parole Board has released a progress report on high-profile convicted sex offender Stewart Murray Wilson.

Mr Wilson is living in the grounds of Wanganui Prison following his release on parole late last year after spending 18 years in jail for a string of sex offences.

He appeared before the Parole Board in December and requested that some of the conditions of his parole be relaxed.

The report says Mr Wilson has been leaving his home more frequently and is accompanied by two probation officers when he leaves prison property.

The Parole Board says Mr Wilson is frustrated and is requesting more freedom to leave his house, but has had a number of requests declined.

He will appear before the Parole Board again in March.
