School payroll causing more headaches

8:05 am on 10 January 2013

School principals say the education payroll system is causing more headaches as the new school year approaches.

The latest Novopay pay round went through on Tuesday night, and schools and unions were contacted on Wednesday by people with pay errors.

Ashburton College principal Grant McMillan said he is finding it difficult to enter the details about new staff online, or on paper forms to Novopay.

Mount Albert Grammar School principal Dale Burden is in the same situation. He said the school has 17 new empoyees starting this year.

Mr Burden has sent the Ministry of Education an invoice for about $35,000 for extra hours that the deputy principal and business manager have worked on Novopay errors.
