Police have identified a teenager in relation to an attack on Kawhia's sole police officer.

Constable Perry Griffen was attacked by a number of people while trying to arrest a man on 11 January as a large crowd of people looked on.

Police say the 15-year-old boy who has been identified has been referred to Youth Aid.

They say the investigation is progressing well with lots of information and images being supplied by the public.

Inspector Paul Carpenter says police are building an accurate picture of what happened during and after the incident.

He says the police have been inundated with support from locals, not to mention a public meeting that 300 people attended in Kawhia on Tuesday night.
