Man charged with trying to import child porn

A man has appeared in court in Auckland charged with trying to import child pornography.

The New Zealand man who had been living in Australia, was arrested when he arrived at Auckland airport on 13 January.

Customs said his luggage was searched and images and videos of children being sexually abused, was found.

He appeared in Manukau District Court on Friday where he was remanded without plea to appear on 1 February.

Investigations manager Shane Panettiere said the maximum penalty for trying to import objectionable material is five years in prison or a fine of $5000.
