Apartment building reprieved

A new apartment block in central Auckland has had a reprieve from demolition to make way for the downtown rail tunnel.

Auckland Transport has finalised the list of properties affected by the proposed route and says the building in Mount Eden can remain.

The agency has been refining its plans since contacting about 280 property owners last year to warn them they might be affected.

Nearly 20 properties have been removed from that list, which has been formally lodged with Auckland Council.

That is the start of what could be a planning process that could take a year to confirm the route and acquire the properties.
