Firefighters who ran out of water fighting a large pine forest fire northwest of Hamilton have since brought the blaze under control.
A water tanker was sent from nearby Ngaruawahia and the fire was extinguished just before 8pm Saturday.
A lack of water at the site of the blaze made it hard for firefighters to control the 80 x 80 metre fire which burned for three hours.
A fire service spokesperson said during Saturday there had been 11 fires between Taupo to Whangarei.
