Details of a proposed railway tunnel in Auckland have been issued for public comment.

Auckland Transport wants a 3.4km underground rail line built between the Britomart Centre and Mount Eden.

Three new rail stations would be added to attract more people to travel by train into the city.

Submissions are being taken until 19 March, which will then be considered by planning commissioners.

City Link project director, Claire Stewart said public transport services will be over capacity within 10 years if the link does not go ahead.
