Southern Rural Fire Service monitored a scrub fire near Mossburn overnight.
They were called to the blaze in a logged area at Castle Downs, south of State Highway 94 at 4.10pm on Friday.
Six helicopters and 70 personnel fought the fire and diggers were needed to stop the flames reaching a commercial pine forest.
Southern Fire Communications says the fire is now under control and hotspots are being monitored.
Spokesperson Sally Chesterfield said it will take two days to properly dampen the area and remove hotspots.
