Police say the roads closed after a fatal car crash near Kainga on the outskirts of Christchurch have now reopened.
Police confirmed that a man in his 80s died after a two-car collision at Chaneys Corner on Sunday at about 2.30pm.
The man was the driver of a vehicle which collided with another car at the intersection of Main North Road and Marshland Road.
The car's passenger was transferred to Christchurch hospital with serious injuries and the driver of the other car received minor injuries.
