Charge against Banks withdrawn

6:00 pm on 11 February 2013

A case involving ACT party leader John Banks which was to have been heard in the Wellington District Court on Monday will not now go ahead.

A retired Wellington accountant, Graeme McCready, had laid a prosecution against Mr Banks regarding paperwork he completed relating to his bid for the Auckland mayoralty.

However, as a result of errors in the paperwork filed in the case Mr McCready has asked the court to withdraw the charge.

Further matters against Mr Banks which Mr McCready has filed with the court are still awaiting a judge's decision as to whether or not they are allowed to proceed through the legal system.

No hearing date has been set for those matters.
