Two people died in a car crash in Edgecumbe on Tuesday night. Their car hit a tree at about 11pm.
One person was still alive when emergency services arrived, but died shortly afterwards.
Police say neither of the two men was wearing a seatbelt, the driver did not have the right kind of licence, and speed may have contributed to the crash.
They do not know yet if alcohol was also a factor.
