Major General Dave Gawn is the new Chief of the Army.
Defence Minister Jonathan Coleman said Major General Gawn is currently commander of the Joint Forces headquarters and has displayed the strategic and leadership characteristics required to lead the Army.
He enlisted in the army in 1978 and has served in Bosnia and East Timor.
In 2010, he became deputy chief of the army and was promoted to his current rank in 2011.
