Police are investigating multiple suspicious fires lit within close proximity to each other along a stretch of road in rural Waikato.
Emergency services were called to a property on Old Mountain Road near Te Pahu overnight on Wednesday after a resident noticed one of the fires.
Upon arrival, firefighters found another four separately lit blazes - with some ranging up to 500 metres.
The fires damaged fencing and burnt through scrub and bush up a steep embankment before firefighters could put them out. No one was injured.
Police want to hear from anyone with information about how the fires started.
