Novopay software to be upgraded at weekend

4:07 pm on 22 February 2013

The minister responsible for Novopay says the company running the troubled payroll system will release the first of three planned software upgrades at the weekend.

Steven Joyce said on Friday the upgrades are part of a remediation plan designed to address the most significant bugs.

The system, worth $100 million over 10 years, has been plagued with thousands of errors since it was introduced in August last year, with underpayments, overpayments or no payments at all to some teaching staff.

A ministerial inquiry into the introduction of Novopay is continuing, as well as a technical audit to solve lingering problems.

Mr Joyce also released more data on the 23rd pay cycle which was paid on 6 February.

It shows that 552 staff were notified as not being paid, 521 were overpaid and 589 were underpaid.

The affected staff were from 628 schools, about a quarter of schools on the payroll system.
