A Matamata man who was shot in the face and stomach remains in a critical condition in Waikato Hospital.
Police say the 20-year-old was shot late on Thursday night by a man who fled in a ute.
A few hours later a man was found dead in the town and the police say they are not looking for anyone else in relation to the shooting.
The injured man is in a critical but stable condition in intensive care.
