Ground crews to resume fighting fire

The Fire Service is sending a big ground operation back to a large scrub fire north of Auckland in the hope of getting it under control.

Helicopters with monsoon buckets worked throughout Sunday to try to contain the fire in Dome Valley, which has burned 71 hectares of scrub.

Principal rural fire officer Bryan Cartelle told Morning Report there are a few hot spots, but the situation is looking very good.

He said containing the fire has been complicated by the terrain.
