Mannering named Kiwis captain

Warriors captain Simon Mannering has been named as the new Kiwis rugby league skipper.

He replaces Benji Marshall who was stripped of the captaincy on Thursday.

Mannering will lead the side at the Anzac Test in Canberra on 19 April and in the defence of their World Cup title in Britain later this year.

He has captained the Warriors for three years and was a Kiwis vice-captain during his 28-test career.

The 26-year-old said the role was the biggest honour in the game and he was looking forward to what he can do for the team in a big year.

Kiwis coach Stephen Kearney said Marshall remains part of the leadership team and his input is still very much valued.
