The first installment of The Hobbit films has reached $US1 billion in global ticket sales.
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is the 15th film in history to exceed the $US1 billion mark worldwide.
It has earned $US301 million in the United States alone and about $US700 million internationally.
However, Warner Bros. expects that figure to rise, with the film already grossing almost $US40 million in 10 days in China.
The second Hobbit film is set for releaseat the end of this year.
