New high rope safety guidelines

Work on new safety guidelines for high ropes activities began several months ago, well before a fatal fall at an adventure course near Auckland.

Clifford Brabet from Auckland, was at Tree Adventures near Kumeu when he fell to his death on Sunday.

Outdoors New Zealand, which represents adventure tourism operators, is working with various sectors to establish new guidelines in the aftermath of a review by the Department of Labour.

Chief executive Garth Dawson said adventure park operators comply with European standards but they have come together to form their own regulations.

He said Sunday's tragedy will help inform what changes may need to be made.
