Festive weekend brings Auckland traffic warning

10:27 am on 9 March 2013

Auckland transport officials are urging people to use public transport or share rides with friends on one of the busiest weekends of the year for the city.

Hundreds of thousands of people are expected at major events in the city, including the Pasifika Festival, the Round the Bays run, Super 15 rugby and concerts at Vector Arena.

Auckland Transport warns people to expect delays wherever they go and says drivers should be patient and give themselves plenty of extra time to travel.

Organisers of the two-day Pasifika Festival expect tens of thousands of visitors at the event at Western Springs. Free park-and-ride shuttles will be running between the Unitec campus in Mt Albert and the festival.

On Sunday morning, several roads including Quay Street and Tamaki Drive will be closed for the Round the Bays fun run.

Spectators heading to the Super 15 rugby later in the day can travel free on buses and trains.
