Six in court over killing of Auckland inmate

6:07 am on 3 April 2009

Tight security was in place at North Shore District Court for the appearance of six prisoners charged in relation to the killing of a fellow inmate at Auckland Prison at Parememoremo.

Samoan-born Tue Faavae, 23, was found dead inside a sector of the east wing of Auckland Prison in March.

After a month-long investigation the police on Wednesday arrested and charged five men with his murder.

Another inmate has been charged with being an accessory after the fact.

The men were handcuffed together when they appeared at North Shore District Court on Thursday and were flanked by police officers wearing stab-proof vests.

They were given name suppression and will reappear in court next month.
