Christchurch police have confirmed a man found dead in Hagley Park on Thursday was held in custody the night before he died.
He has been named as Nick John Renouf, 19, and a student at Canterbury University.
Christchurch Area Commander, Superintendent Andy McGregor, says Mr Renouf was arrested for a liquor ban breach in Riccarton Road on Wednesday night.
He was held at the Christchurch Police Station.
Mr Renouf's Tauranga family is due in Christchurch this afternoon.
The case has now been referred to the Coroner, who will make a final determination as to the cause of death.
