Police say the teenage driver of a car that crashed south of Helensville killing three people did not have a licence.
Passengers Moashon Harrison, 11, Mananui Harrison, aged 2, and driver Cheyenne Hemana, 17, who was the children's aunt, died in the crash on State Highway 16 on Thursday.
Six-year-old Messiah Harrison survived and had surgery for a broken leg on Friday.
The two older children attended Huapai District School. Principal Kevin Cronin says Messiah was to receive a school award on Friday.
A man in another car was also injured in the crash.
