Police have identified the cyclist in intensive care in Christchurch Hospital since midday on Sunday after a crash with a car.
The man suffered critical head injuries in the collision, which happened on Pages Rd, Aranui.
The man, believed to be in his early 20s, had no wallet or documentation on him.
His name will not be released until his family is notified.
