A 24-year-old woman successfully fended off an attacker on a central Hamilton street early on Saturday morning.
Police say the woman was walking home from work along Boundary Road about 2am when she was attacked from behind.
They say the attacker man grabbed her mouth and punched her but her screams and struggle eventually scared him off.
He's described as Maori or Polynesian, about 20 years old, with dark hair with a fringe longer on one side with bleached tips.
