A man who had apparently crawled under a truck in a Whangarei car park to sleep has been found dead.
The body of the man, thought to be in his 40s, was found at the i-Site visitor centre's car park on Wednesday morning.
Acting Sergeant Paul Nicholas says a truck and trailer had been parked overnight and it seems the man had been sleeping beneath it.
Mr Nicholas says the driver would have been unaware of that when he drove off about 5.30am.
He says the driver is not in any trouble but should contact police so the Coroner can establish what has happened.
Police are still trying to identify the dead man.
