Police say they have no evidence of underage street prostitution in Otara.
The Otara-Papatoetoe local board says girls as young as 13 are selling sex in front of the Otara shopping centre.
But the area commander for Counties-Manukau East says neither the police nor the many agencies they work with have identified a specific problem.
Inspector Chris de Wattignar does, however, accept that young people do not always confide in the police, and said the claims would be investigated.
