NZ keeps pushing for Antarctic marine protection

11:03 am on 28 March 2013

Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully says the Government will do what is required to ensure the world's largest marine protected area goes ahead.

New Zealand and the United States last year failed to convince other countries why Antarctica's Ross Sea should be protected, but negotiations will resume in July.

Mr McCully says government negotiators are talking to foreign leaders in China, Russia and Ukraine - the countries that blocked the deal last year.

He says New Zealand will do any deal it can to ensure those countries approve the plan in July.
