A 22-year old hunter has been rescued from the Kaimanawa Forest Park near Taupo after becoming lost in the bush.
The man, from Te Awamutu was hunting alone, having separated from his two companions.
The police say the hunter called his mother by cellphone to say he was lost, and she then alerted police.
Police were able to contact the man and establish his location.
The Taupo-based Greenlea Rescue Helicopter was sent to find him, and he was winched to safety on Friday morning.
