Two quakes hit off the East Coast of the North Island on Saturday night.
A 5.7 magnitude earthquake has struck near the Kermadec Islands at 7.23pm. It was 995 kilometres north east of Gisborne at a depth of zero kilometres.
And a 4.8 magnitude quake hit off the coast of East Cape at 7.27pm.
It was centred 80 kilometres east of Te Araroa at a depth of nine kilometres.
