Christchurch fires not connected

10:02 pm on 31 March 2013

The Fire Service says four fires in Christchurch over Easter are not connected.

Fire crews were called to a fire in a car in the suburb of Linwood in the early hours of Sunday morning before another suspicious fire had to be put out later in the morning in the bed of the Rakaia River, south of Christchurch.

This follows Saturday's blaze in the Port Hills which took 18 hours to extinguish and another earlier that day on a boat which is beached near Shag Rock, in the east of the city.

The Fire Service says the car fire and the boat fire have been referred to the police while the cause of the other two fires is still being investigated.
