Bay of Plenty police are hunting for a burglar who threatened to kill an elderly woman after breaking into her home.
The 76-year-old woman from Opotiki escaped through a bedroom window to raise the alarm on Saturday.
The burglar stole a small amount of cash, after grabbing the woman and threatening to kill her if she screamed or called police.
Detective Constable Ash Clements is calling for public assistance in identifying the offender.
He is described as in his teens or early 20s, a fair-skinned Maori of short stature and slim build.
