7:31 am on 3 April 2013

The police have spoken to cricketer Jesse Ryder in relation to the assault in Christchurch that left him with a fractured skull and collapsed lung.

Ryder was attacked at a McDonald's carpark in Merivale in the early hours of last Thursday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Archer says he was interviewed in hospital on Tuesday morning but he has no recollection of what took place or the events leading up to the incident.

He says this is not uncommon in people who have received that type of head injury.

Mr Archer says if Ryder regains memories police may speak to him again.

The former Black Cap does recall getting a duck for his Firebirds' team against Canterbury last Wednesday.

A 20-year-old and his 37-year-old relative have been charged with assault and will appear in Christchurch District Court on Thursday.
