The Easter holiday road toll rose to six with the death of a motorcyclist on Monday night.
The man died in Christchurch Hospital after a head-on collision with a car near Akaroa earlier in the day.
The official Easter holiday period ended at 6am on Tuesday.
Last year, nine people were killed over the Easter weekend and 195 were injured.
