Dogs that attacked woman stolen from pound

Two bull mastiff dogs which had attacked an elderly Southland woman have been stolen from the Invercargill City Council dog pound.

Noeline Shaw, 68, was attacked by the two dogs while delivering pamphlets in Makarewa on Wednesday 8 April.

Invercargill Council environmental director William Watt says the dogs were being held at the pound while the council sought a court order to have them destroyed.

He says bolt-cutters were used to gain entry to the pound. Mr Watt says the dogs are dangerous if uncontrolled and is asking members of the public to come forward if they have any information.

Police are investigating the break-in.
