A Hamilton District Court Judge has urged the two companies and their directors charged over the fatal coolstore fire at Tamahere near Hamilton to make progress on the case for the good of the victims.

One firefighter died and seven were seriously injured in an explosion and fire at the Icepak Coolstore in on 5 April 2008.

The company Icepak faces three charges and its directors, Jan Van Eden, Iain Slight and Wayne Grattan face one charge each.

Another company, Mobile Refrigeration Specialists, and its director Warren Cook, are also charged under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

Judge Phillip Connell on Friday refused an application by Icepak to adjourn the status hearing saying every effort must be made to bring closure to the case for the sake of the victims.

The case has been called again for early May when a date will be set for a defended hearing.
