Paua campaigners try for Southland support

10:22 pm on 9 April 2013

A campaign against plans to allow a new commercial paua harvesting area is trying to drum up support in Southland.

Recreational divers in Dunedin are outraged at the Ministry for Primary Industries' proposal to open 11km of protected coast on the Otago Peninsula.

Three other sections proposed for opening further south at Kaka Point, Waipapa Point in the Caitlins and around Bluff Hill have not met with the same level of opposition.

But divers who have formed a campaign called Paua to the People have called meetings for Wednesday and Thursday nights near those sites to encourage local opposition.
